Bringin the Heat at Mt Sac

On a day that topped out at 99 degrees we also had some hot performances on the track at Mt Sac. They included season best times in the 4x400m relay (4:43). Steph Jolley anchored the relay in 54.2. Amanda Mergaert competed in the Invitational 1500m run and finished in 4:22.76 for a season best. Jolley added a PR and heat win in the 400m hurdles (60.01). We have several athletes competing at Long Beach State today.

2 races, 2 PR's

Senior Bree Leroy opened the 2012 Mt Sac Relays for the Utes with a solid performance in the multi event. She went over 5,000 points (5096) once again just shy of her lifetime best. Her next multi event will be at the Pac-12 Championships in May.

Two young Utes took to the track on Thursday afternoon and evening and had lifetime best performances. True freshman Andrea Chavez cut four seconds off of her lifetime best in the 1500m run (4:28.39) to place in the middle of her heat. Chavez ran like a veteran after falling back early. She was able to steadily work her way into the mix and finished well for a PR.

Sophomore Auralea Fain took to the track at 10:30pm local time under ideal conditions and she took full advantage as she placed 7th in the B heat in a new lifetime best of 36:20. That time was 1:10 faster than she ran a year ago. She was really focused after last year and knew that her entry time was one of the slowest in her heat. To come out and beat 24 of the 31 girls in the field was outstanding and a great sign of her maturity and focus as a distance runner.

Friday we have a full slate of action at the track. Check back for more results late tonight and on Saturday.

A San Francisco Treat

After four solid performances at the Stanford Invitational I took the girls up to San Francisco for dinner. Before dinner we were able to enjoy some of the tourist spots (Golden Gate Park, Pacific Ocean at Cliff House, Lombard St, and the Golden Gate Bridge. We had dinner in the Marina District on Chesnutt St. A great way to end our trip.
