Pac 12 Era Begins

In our first Pac-12 Championship meet our women did a terrific job of competing and handling the stress of a new league.  We were able to tie Cal for 10th place in the team standings and score over double what the local paper expected us to based on their form charts.  The so called "experts" picked us for nine points and we scored 21.  Senior Bree LeRoy led us with nine points scoring in three events.  Congrats to our young women who set several personal and season best marks.  We will continue to grow our program and improve in the coming years as Utah is an exciting place to be right now.  A new league, a new facility, and an incredible group of young women and coaches who love track and field....that's Utah Track & Field.

On the Board with a PR

Day two of our initial Pac-12 Championships ended with our first PR of the meet.  Senior Bree LeRoy compiled 5221 points which was good for seventh place overall.  Her long jump was solid (18-9.25).  However, she had an off day in the javelin and that likely cost her a place or two in the overall standings.  She finished with a lifetime best (2:29) in the 800 meters.  Her score is third all time at Utah.   To come back in the 800 the way she did is a testament to her toughness and ability to overcome a setback.  The multi events are tough that way.  One event your setting the world on fire and the very next event the smallest thing isn't quite right and your momentum swings the other way.  Most people don't understand how important the mental side of the multis really is.  It is two long days of competition that requires a lot of focus, patience, and confidence.  The remainder of the meet will take place back in Eugene, OR next weekend (May 5-6).  Check back throughout the week and during the meet for more updates.

A New Era Begins!!!

The Utah Track & Field program will take another big step forward when it competes in the initial Pac-12 Conference Championships May 5-6 and 12-13.  The meet will be hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field.  This weekend features the multi events.  The rest of the events will be held on the second weekend.  Senior Bree LeRoy will become the first Utah athlete to compete as she is entered in the heptathlon.  She ranks fifth in the conference going into the event.  Good luck to all of our athletes as they usher us into a new era of track & field excellence.
