The goal was simple...run 10:12 or faster in order to reach the "A" standard for the U.S. Outdoor National Championship meet. Mission accomplished! Based on her indoor 3K performances and sixth place finish at the indoor national meet Shayla and I both knew it was possible, but the steeple is a tough, tricky event especially the first one of the season. However, she went out and took charge of the race and the pace. After a fair opening lap of 80 seconds she went to work and ran off laps of 75-78-79-80. She gave up the lead with just over two laps to go, but never lost contact with the leader. Her last lap looked strong and she made the pass coming out of the final water barrier to win the Stanford Invite in a new personal best of 10:03.26 which is a 26 second PR.
Below is video of the final lap.
